My reflections

Its been an interesting few months .we have had some great debates over different things. we have had some great ideas put forward from the different tutors and students which some i have used in the classroom ie. A3 sheets ,me and another tutor [Bruce Smith] made a cd on how to sharpen a chisel, mind maps etc. It was interesting to see the video on the chap doing his O E. and how he made it interesting by doing that dance in different countries and how the beat drew in people about him until evetually he had a crowd all doing it with him. It was riveting stuff. And then to the last video of the course which i felt was abit controversial so i made some comments which i dont think every body appreciated, but it was what i felt at that time. All in all it was a good course and if i can keep reflecting back to the notes i have taken , and using different stratergies i should be able to get my class involved in there own learning, with me as the leader to guide them when necessary. Thanks to all the tutors who ran the course and to us students it was great to meet you all.

A3 Assessment

These drawings are the assessments for fungal and insect attack. we gave the students the questions and they had to find the information and draw it on a A3 sheet .Above is the finished product with the assessment questions . Ifound the class liked doing this sort of thing as it was something different than doing test after test. The students had a set amount of time to do it and hand themin to me .Over all a pleasing exercise for the class with some good results.

after marking the assessmrnts of health and safety and comparing them with previous years, i found that the marks were not quite as good. but with saying that t5he class absolutely enjoyed
the lesson . i feel as we get better at doing this type of lessons the students results will improve and with the other tutors imput it can only get better

i gave the students the lesson topic which was health and safety and had them come up to the whiteboard and write anything they new about the topic .this what they came up with.

Tues,20th session

An interesting session. I didn"t understand a thing our guest speaker was saying .It appeared to me to be a lot of mumble that went round in circles, but i liked the chap doing a dance at the different places he went to .It was rivetting to see how different people got into it
as well. i wonder if my carpentry students while beating a tune with there hammers and chisels would get there practical done quicker. It would make it a interesting class though.
